Once you turn 70, it’s time to slow down. Collect your social security checks. Live modestly. Avoid traveling far. Stay close to home, just to be safe. After all, you never know when you might slip and fall, break a hip, and need a good surgeon!
At least, that’s what we’re told.
My friends April and John beg to differ.
They lived in the Bay Area for over 40 years. April, a well-known interior designer, and John, a talented artist and photographer, were a dynamic couple.
Their home was filled with art. Their garden, which had taken years to grow, was stunning. They had good friends and a full social calendar.
It was a good life. And yet, they felt restless and wanted to shake things up.
In their 70s, they found themselves wondering, “What if we sold our home and moved overseas? What if we lived somewhere unfamiliar and new? It would be a very big change. But it could be a wonderful adventure.”
As an experiment, they decided to spend three months living in London. They loved it. Three months turned into six. Then, they decided to make a big leap and move there permanently.
This was not an easy move. It took months of endless paperwork and the emotional see-saw of leaving everything they knew behind.
But they knew in their hearts that this was the right decision.
They no longer wanted a comfortable life. They wanted to stretch, be challenged, and begin a fresh chapter. They bravely chose the door that led to the unknown.
They are now happily living in their new city. Each day is a new adventure. They are living proof that it’s never too late to reinvent your work and life. It all begins with one question: “What if…?”
